Krayt Dragon by jeddibub Krayt Dragon by jeddibub
An image I've been dreaming up for a while but finally it came to realisation over the last two days.

The character featured is that belonging to c2usaf2004 , Jacen Nojes. In the character's profile it mentioned that he owned two lightsabers, one a dual phase purple, the other a silver single blade with a Krayt Pearl as it's crystal. Krayt Pearls are only found in the stomach of Krayt Dragon so for Nojes to own one he must have killed/found one. This immediately caught my attention and I just had to illustrate the more dynamic option. ;)

The Krayt Dragon design I've used here is heavily influenced by Terryl Whitlatch, a true master of creature design. I positively hate that four legged, triceratops thing that I've seen in several screenshots from some computer game, looks too much like your conventional dragon. Whitlatch's version is a lot less dragon influences and is an impressive design with no less than ten legs with which it can dive through mountains of sand. I took a few liberties here and there for dynamics and personal taste. :)

Always liked the krayt dragon: managed to look quire unique while remaining inherently draconic.

Actually, to dispel all confusion, this is a Greater Krayt Dragon, while the smaller Quadrupeds are simply Krayt Dragons.

Excellent artwork, somthing to note though is that krayt dragons are Quadropeds, meaning they only have four legs.

This is wicked. I love the dragon, too. Poor little Jedi, about to see the Krayt pearl in its natural habitat.

I got the book aswell, and the greater Krayt dragon is a subspecies of the "normal" one, so these are two different creatures. The skeleton of the greater krayt can be found in tatooine and C3PO walks by it in "A New Hope".

Anyways really nice work!

the krayt dragon is also apart of the Star Wars creatures I think...I have a book of the creatures and I think there was something called a Great Krayt Dragon, though no one has ever seen it and it lives on Tatuine(sp?) though I may be wrong...yea I like it anyways, it's really different and looks cool to me

Nice shading! Thay made that thing too easy to beat in Knight's of the Old Republic (the game with the four-legged dragon thing).

That's pretty bad-ass... love thecolors and idea... the sketchy style really lends itself to the beast's face. Nice work

Now that is a nightmarish creature. Great work in portraying the terrible majesty that is the scourge of Tatooine. I also like the Jedi's expression and body language. He seems to be saying both "You want more of this?" and "Aw, crap" at the same time, both confidently defiant and scared as hell (as he should be; I don't care how close follow the Jedi Code).

Ah yes, the "greater" Krayt was always a niftier design than the original, which to me looks like something out of a bad 50s stop-motion animation flick. Love the sense of scale you put between dragon and Jedi, but the dragon almost looks squashed against the left side of the pic. Ah well, this still gets 5 lightsabers out of 5 :greenprobe::greenprobe::greenprobe::greenprobe::greenprobe:

This is a nice rendition of the dragon, :XD: I like the four legged one too though, but I do admit it looks like a komodo dragon. *Sigh* I wish they would have added more about these magnificent creatures in the movie than just seeing the skeleton. Automatic :+fav: !

Beautiful work, Core.

I love how you were able to illustrate the dragon's ten legs without making them look disjointed - it's truly amazing.

Coolness! I can almost feel the setting. I especially love the dust and the sky's color.
The dragon is incredible. Sweet design there. It took me some time to see that one of it's limbs had been cut off. Maybe more contrast was needed there, but it's nothing terrible.

Incredible rendering! My idea of one of these was much too conventional... I love yours oh so much better! But then, I usually do. LOL.

*geek alert below, you have been warned*

And mature Kryat dragons (I think) have several pearls. They use them in the digestion process like a chicken uses stones in its gizzard.

:glomp: Thanks again hon!! You're being crazy kind to me, puffing my ego up, I won't be able to put my beanie on soon! :D

I must admit after seeing what the concept artists on Star wars did in that Visionaries collection, I am interested in doing a comic style sequential work. Although I'm not the best at writing and probably couldn't settle on an idea to follow. Have you got any advice here, like any good sites or books about this sort of thing? But thanks bunches for the vote of confidence. I really do appreciate your support!

I get a lot of inspiration from just sticking my own characters in crazy scenarios, but I do admit I get influence from places. Goony Town, I wanted the look of it to be close to the childlike scenery of Yoshi's Island and the odd abstractness of Dr. Seusse. Taking just the elements I like from both, I made Goony Town. I don't know of any specific graphic novels good for plot developement but if you're serious about looking at how it's done and good story lines go to the library and read some of the graphic novels there. Try to avoid Marvel Comics though. Cool as they are, it's more fun to read obscure storylines (: It's what I do to get ideas and see other people's, anyway. Plus there's probly a book or two floating around on the subject - library time again.

Thanks! :) I hated the screenshots for that Krayt, it seemed like a dinosaur wannabe and was to me a bit bland. I mean this is the Krayt Dragon, ultimate predator in the SW universe! :D Well that and drawing many legged creatures is just so fun!

Thanks for looking and taking the time to comment! :) Yeah I must admit I'm a bit of a fan. ;) Although I think its because everything's so in depth...I appreciate things that have a lot of layers, Lord of the Rings is like that too. I'm such a fiend for Epic Sagas.
